While the cloud service isn’t free, it guarantees timely updates, security fixes, and reduces the support burden on your team. This option can significantly reduce your overall hosting costs and maintenance efforts compared to other managed solutions or self-hosted setups.

How does Ptah.sh differ from Coolify and CapRover?

While Ptah.sh shares some similarities with Coolify and CapRover, it has several key differences:

  • Commercial Focus: Ptah.sh uses Fair Source Licensing, allowing for commercialization while still permitting self-hosting for internal needs. This model supports better quality, faster development, and improved customer support.
  • Opinionated Design: Ptah.sh is more opinionated in its architecture, focusing on simplicity and covering the needs of 80% of small to medium businesses while maintaining an easy-to-use interface.
  • Docker Swarm Only: Unlike some alternatives, Ptah.sh exclusively uses Docker Swarm as its backend, simplifying development, support, and user experience.
  • Careful Feature Selection: New features are carefully evaluated to maintain a simplified user experience and attract users and contributors with a similar mindset.

Why is it called Ptah.sh?

The name Ptah.sh has two parts:

  • Ptah (pronounced /tɑː/ or “TAH”): An ancient Egyptian deity, known as a creator god and patron deity of craftsmen and architects.
  • .sh: Refers to shell scripts, commonly used in DevOps and system administration.

Combining these elements, Ptah.sh symbolizes a “god and patron of DevOps,” reflecting our mission to empower developers and system administrators with powerful, easy-to-use tools for managing their infrastructure.

Also, in Ukrainian “Ptah” means “Bird” and we’re trying the best to fly high and help our customers to do the same.

Why is the Hobby plan billed annually?

We offer the Hobby plan as an annual subscription to provide the best value for our users. This pricing model allows us to offer a significant discount compared to monthly billing, making it more affordable for individuals and small projects. The yearly subscription also helps us maintain a stable user base and invest in continuous improvements to our platform.

What happens if my trial expires or I don’t pay on time?

At Ptah.sh, we prioritize your control and continuity. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Service Continuity: Your services will continue to run smoothly on your own servers, regardless of your account status with Ptah.sh.
  • Panel Access: When your trial expires or payment is overdue, you’ll lose access to the Ptah.sh management panel. However, this doesn’t affect your running services.
  • No Vendor Lock-in: Since everything is hosted on your own servers, you maintain full control of your infrastructure and data at all times.
  • Reactivation: You can regain access to the Ptah.sh panel at any time by updating your payment information or selecting a plan.

We’re committed to providing a flexible, user-friendly experience. If you have any questions or need assistance, our support team is always here to help.
